Our parties have always been kind of a big deal.
Big deals take time to shake out, so you'll have the full synopsis of our Friday/Saturday/Sunday parties as we confirm the venues and logistics for each of them. All you need to know is that you will not be left wanting, nor will you need to bring your wallet.
We're fans of grand entrances. At 7pm, after you've hopefully pre-registered at the Metropolitan, we'll be kicking off the conference at The Extension Room in Toronto's famed Distillery District. Our guests of honour are the Toronto Kenjutsu collective, who will be performing live swordsmanship in the style of Katori Shinto Ryu during the party. Phillip Mendonça-Vieira serves as our interactive art ambassador for the evening via the world's first Instagram music visualizer. We're going to be doling out as much free sake as you can shake a stick at (via Toronto's famed Spring Water Sake Co.), and there will be the obligatory food + music + dancing that you'll come to expect throughout the weekend. Welcome, Samurai!
Two-parter! Post-daytime sessions, we'll be herding you to Toronto's uber-hip Drake Hotel for some trendy + old fashioned eats and multimedia in a strolling dinner setting starting at 6pm. Around 8:30, we'll be ushering you next door to Twist Gallery for a night of Tokyo-themed revelry in the form of music (with a live performance by Toronto's own Unsui, and a touch of j-rock), drinks, insane amounts of candy, pachinko machines, vintage arcade games, installation art, anime films, a hand-made purikura photo booth, and all other Shibuya-inspired kitsch we can land.
As per every conference we've run, we invite all of you to Unspace World Headquarters to hug it out on our modest roof (and by modest, we mean a 200 capacity deck with a full view of the Toronto skyline and a gregarious resident bartender.) We'll be dishing out nosh, music, prizes, specialty drinks, screening the obligatory Kurosawa films on the roof as wind permits, and beckoning TBA local entertainers and DJ's to bid us adieu in style.
Throne of JS — Seven Frameworks is a two day, single-track conference focused on answering the question on every web developer's mind: which framework? We're bringing together the creators of every important client-side .js framework to speak about their creations so that you can decide when to use what.
It's no longer good enough to build web apps around full page loads and then "progressively enhance" them to behave more dynamically. Building apps which are fast, responsive and modern require you to completely rethink your approach. This is a big transition to make and it is further complicated by the plethora of great options out there. Don't just sit around and wait for things to shake out.
